Exchange piloted a toolkit of credit training on individual lending for microfinance in April 2006 in Kampala, Uganda in conjunction with MicroSave. Participants included three of our bank partners in Africa and four of MicroSave's partners, with 19 lenders and 21 managers attending. The toolkit on individual micro lending, with specific training manuals for lenders and managers, emphasizes lessons on the fundamentals of sound underwriting of individual loans, with a focus on cash flow based lending, monitoring, and the management of problem assets, making use of case studies and examples from the African market. Exchange is working with MicroSave in 2007 to develop and offer an updated training in an Asian location for regional partners.
