BASIX loans and technical assistance have been instrumental in the development of eight-year-old Jharkhand Province. More than 500,000 farmers in the province, where Pepsico India Holding Ltd, Fritolay division, has established a project to grow and buy potatoes, have participated. BASIX assists them with every livelihood activity, from potatoes, peas to dairy, lac and tussar.

Inder Mahto, a seasoned farmer from Pali village, who had been growing Pepsico potatoes in his 5 acres, said, “Taking help from banks and government involves a lot of hassles; at least these people come to our doorstep.”

Technical and financial assistance from BASIX has the potential to increase crop yields to 14 times the present amount.
