Human Resources Forum
Location: Luxembourg

The ShoreCap Exchange Spring HR Forum, “Leveraging Human Capital for Performance and Growth,” was held on May 19-21, 2008, in Luxembourg. Participating were 28 HR and line managers, CEOs, CFOs, and COOs from around the globe representing 15 different institutions from India to Rwanda, from Cambodia to the Philippines.

Topics discussed centered on the challenges of recruitment and retention, which all participants face as they try to manage their rapid growth. Integrating HR into the organization’s business practices and implementing an effective performance management system are key elements in strategies to meet these challenges. As one forum participant noted, “Recruitment of the right people is a powerful retention tool,” and a close HR/line management partnership is essential for building an organizational culture that can recognize, develop, and keep star performers while maintaining morale and attachment to the mission throughout the organization. Since the participating organizations all shared commitments to developing their respective countries, their value propositions themselves are strong recruiting tools and performance motivators. The bottom line is that culture, goals, strategy, and reward systems should all be consistent and mutually reinforcing in fast-growing financial institutions that have both financial and social objectives.

Over the course of the conference, each forum participant worked out a development plan consisting of strategies to implement both individually and in partnership with other leaders. ShoreCap Exchange will work with the participants to support them in implementing their ideas so that the Forum produces value-adding, tangible results.
