Shorecap Exchange's approach is local and demand-driven, with services supplied by bankers. By design, Exchange's clients are locally owned and managed financial institutions. Exchange runs two main programs:
(a) Exchange and the client bank work together to design an onsite capacity building plan to address the needs of the financial institutions. We attribute the effectiveness of the model to the ownership and involvement of Exchange's clients, who also choose to pay a portion of the expenses on a cost-sharing basis for services received.
(b) Exchange’s knowledge exchange (KEN) and peer learning program applies the lessons learned working on the ground with partner banks to peer learning forums that bring together banker and practitioner perspectives. KEN activities include the production of publications and toolkits and the development of in-person and virtual events for peer learning. Subject matter is determined by the needs and requests of the partner banks, and can include areas such as credit, human resources and risk management.
